The Project Principles

This project is being managed by a group of women who have all had positive life experiences in the Pilbara. They know many others have stories that should be captured so we can learn from each other. They have formed a not-for-profit management group and received sponsorship and support of the project from Rio Tinto Iron Ore, Australian photographers (Matt Lee, Frank Richardson, Hugh Brown, Leon Holmes and Richard Woldendorp), the book printers (BPA Print) and the WA Government's Landgate. Other organisations such as UWA Press and the National Council of Women have added their support. Lotterywest has provided funding to place the books into all the regional libraries and the metropolitan library systems

The beneficiaries of this project include:

  • The Royal Flying Doctor Service Western Operations which will benefit from earnings from the book that are excess to costs.

  • Everyone who contributes stories and experiences to the book and web site as they will understand their experiences and themselves better.

  • Those who read the stories and relate to the experiences.

  • The sponsors who see the value in supporting women who live and work in remote parts of Australia and therefore bring an element of balance to these communities.
