"Red Dust in Her Veins - Women of the Pilbara" has already sold all of its first print run and the second printing is selling fast.
The books can be ordered directly through the Royal Flying Doctor Service (Western Operations. It has been printed in full colour and features 12 inspirational women and 6 photographers.
So far the book has been marketed by a bevy of supporters including RioTinto; the RFDS itself and the Flying 1000 club of the RFDS and The National Council of Women. A number of organisations have helped by inviting Melva Stone and Erica Smyth to speak at their functions and these have included RioTinto; Deloitte; ANZ Women in Banking; Busselton Probis Club; WA Women Chiefs of Enterprise; WALGA; Perth Flying Squadron; American Chamber of Commerce and the Perth, the Karrakatta Club and Belmont Rotary Club.
The books themselves are packed and posted by volunteers at the Royal Flying Doctor Service in Jandakot. The book was featured in the 2007 RFDS Christmas catalogue and this produced many orders. Other media articles through 2008 have kept these volunteers busy.
The first print run of 4500 books was sold out by April 2008 and the RFDS reported that $100,000 was raised through book sales and associated donations from this first edition.
A second print run is now selling well. It is only available in soft cover.
We invite you to tell your friends in your 2008 Christmas emails and cards about the book and this website. For those who are looking for Christmas gifts this is an ideal way to show off our country and help the RFDS at the same time.
