Stories of the Inspirational Women of the Pilbara
Women have made an enormous contribution to the development of outback and remote areas in Western Australia and elsewhere. However, much of what they have achieved is lost in the telling of the tales of the contributions made by our men.

This is especially the case in the Pilbara.

Many women have fascinating stories to tell – and they must be told before they are lost. Not many of these women would tell their stories without encouragement though, because they do not see themselves as exceptional.

We collected stories from indigenous women, from pastoralists, women in the resource industry and government - and the women who followed their husbands and fathers into the region.

Their stories tell of a difficult and often isolated life in a place of great beauty and space.

Only special people can say "We like it here".

These amazing stories, told by inspirational women, remind us of how it was - and indeed, how it is.

They provide an insight for the women currently living in, or thinking of moving to a remote area like the Pilbara, into issues like the money, the isolation, relationships, power, cultural change, danger, risk - and the beauty.
